Finally some Christmas shopping this weekend for family and close friends! We went to Toronto Eaton Centre this Saturday and the mall was packed, I guess everyone was there for the same purpose. This year we missed the Swarovski crystal tree that we had for many years and got these gigantic lighted reindeer. I snapped a few photos and sent them over to my friends in Hong Kong, they replied with a shocking face emoticon and complimented how nice it is.. what they don't know is, this is almost the nicest decorations we get..
The annual Toronto Christmas Market at Distillery District ended this weekend. HB and I were glad to make it on Saturday night. Traditional lights, Christmas carols, wooden workshops, street foods, hot chocolates, scents of Christmas, along with the 45 foot white spruce tree wrapped up our night well. Everyone there were smiley, polite, and indulging in the spirit of the holidays.
Japango was highly recommended by a friend, she liked the sushi alot from this place and it didn't disappoint! We ordered a few orders of sushi - torched hokkaido scallop, freshly opened sea urchin, ikura with quail egg. Delicious! They were all so yummy, but my favorite one was the torched scallop, it tasted exceptionally sweet, fresh and full of creamy texture.
Chirashi Supreme was only $28, which to my experience was relatively cheaper than most Japanese restaurants. We also ordered the nabe yaki udon (seafood, egg in bonito broth), light and flavorful at the same time. The noodle warmed us up in the end since our meal was filled with sashimi and sushi. Service was great but we felt a little rushed, only because of the limited space on a Saturday night. We went early and reservation wasn't needed, but if you are planning to go during dinner time, it would be better to make reservations ahead to avoid the wait.
We had a great weekend and hope you did too! What did you do over this weekend? Thank you for dropping by and keep the spirits bright, Christmas is really almost here!
